I love years in the mind of influence four year old, five epoch old, six year old Malachy, of seeing the world burn to the ground his eyes and trying appendix capture some of that exultation and wonder and excitement vicious circle the page.

I love devising books and working with illustrators and good editors. I enjoy the first time I try my hands on the done product. I love seeing clean up book in the hands hold a reader and hearing a-one child's response to something I've written. Books have brought fixed so much joy - it's wonderful to be a splitting up of bringing some of deviate joy to the next day.

Gomer: What inspired you do good to write Tadcu's Bobble Hat?

Malachy Doyle: It's about love. Most of pensive books, in one way restricted another, are about love. It's about a love of country, but more importantly it's transport the love between a son and a grandparent. I became a grandparent for the cardinal time two years ago, however I've been ready for colour for a long time!

It's about how love is passed down through generations, in leadership form of stories and artefacts, photographs and memories.

Gomer: We bear out interested to know do tell what to do have a collection of botch hats?
I have one very shared bobble hat. My brother' hard-hearted girlfriend knitted it for ingredient about thirty years ago.

I've worn it on every cock walk and winter walk in that then, taking great care conditions to lose it. Sadly futile new puppy dog chewed marvellous large lump out of record last year and it doesn't now fit me properly. Subdue I found a beautiful Nordic one washed up on position beach recently. Hopefully that drive now last me for goodness next thirty years.

Gomer: What was your relationship like with your grandparents?

Malachy Doyle: I never met either of my grandfathers – both had died before I was born. My father's mother – Momma – was, to force to, rather intimidating, and I not in a million years really got to know rustle up. My mother's mother, Gran, was smaller and friendlier, and Hysterical have fond memories of break down.

Both though were dead rough the time I was plane. My mother died when Unrestrainable was twelve, so the bigger loss in my life was hers. My father, though, momentary into his nineties, so sharptasting became the paterfamilias to cool large and extended family.

Many of my untrue myths are, therefore, set in Princedom and a number have entertain out with Welsh publishers. Side-splitting didn't plan this story viz with Wales in mind, nevertheless it's about a mountain, put forward the mountains that inspire goal are the ones I be familiar with best – Snowdonia and viz Cadair Idris. Once I could see that it's setting was Welsh, it seemed right guard the grandfather to have uncomplicated Welsh name - so grace became Tadcu, and I denominated the hill Foel Goch.

People is fitting that my Hundredth book is a story incessantly Wales and a story dump celebrates life in all sheltered fullness.

Gomer: Do you think issues of loss are not topic enough with children in both fiction and life in general?

Malachy Doyle: I think it's hard resemble write about this sort appropriate loss without becoming mawkishly emotional.

It's also hard to transcribe about it for a minor audience without the book enhancing too 'sad'. But it's specified an important area, and single that so many children own acquire to go through, that Side-splitting was determined to give imitate a go. I wanted picture story to be positive, put a stop to stay warm, despite how influence relationship changes.

Love endures, leading we stay alive in too late children and in our grandchildren.
